George Milne

The Council's annual recognition of significant contributions to the Institute and the industry. Awarded since 1964 in memory of George Milne and the other pioneers of the Australasian Institution of the Rubber Industry.
About George Milne
1893–1962
George Milne was born in Scotland in 1893. He worked as an engineer on submarines in England during World War One. In 1926, he moved to Australia, where he became well respected for his work in tyre design and as a training officer for the Dunlop Cadet Training Scheme.
George was instrumental in the formation of the Australasian Section of the IRI and was a committed recruiter of new members. He served on state and national councils in a number of roles, including as Australasian Chairman. Following his death in 1962, the Institute founded the memorial medal that bears his name.
